Draws to the attention of the House:
1. Tiny houses on wheels are moveable, trailer-based homes intended for long-term occupation, and are distinct from both conventional fixed dwellings and caravans.
2. Tasmania's current planning, building and plumbing frameworks do not provide a clear, consistent approval pathway for tiny houses on wheels to be lawfully occupied long-term on suitable land.
3. A clear regulatory pathway for tiny houses on wheels could provide an additional small-scale and affordable housing option, while ensuring appropriate standards for siting, safety, sanitation, wastewater, electrical safety, environmental protection and local amenity.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to:
Call on the Tasmanian Government to develop and implement a clear regulatory pathway for tiny houses on wheels in Tasmania, by progressing appropriate planning, building and plumbing reforms to enable their lawful long-term occupation on suitable land.
