Tasmanian citizens draw to the attention of the House - 1. Strong support for the Mount Wellington Cable Car Facilitation Bill 2017. 2. The proposal as promoted by the Mount Wellington Cableway Company Pty Ltd (MWCC) includes several million dollars' worth of much needed public infrastructure and improved amenity at the pinnacle. 3. The project will be subject to standard planning assessment requirements and the approval of Parliament is still required for land acquisition. 4. Precedence for compulsory acquisition of land for purposes of a cable car was originally possible through provisions of the Wellington Park Act 1993 Part 4, Divisions 3, 4 & 5. 5. The Bill does not favour any proponent. Skyway Tasmania was not subjected to an EOI and the City of Hobart rejected MWCC's request for an EOI process in February 2014. 6. The Coordinator-General has confirmed that MWCC has the technical, environmental and financial resources to deliver the project for Tasmania. 7. That Recommendation No. 22 of the 2011 Legislative Council Select Committee Report on Tourism in Tasmania be supported - that is 'The Tasmanian Government actively pursues the appropriate development of a Mount Wellington Cable Car. And your Petitioners request that the Legislative Council support the Mount Wellington Cable Car Facilitation Bill 2017.
