Tasmanian Citizens draw to the attention of the House the Crown Employees (Salaries) Bill 2014.
Your petitioners note with grave concern that the Bill:
1. Breaks legally binding industrial instruments and contracts (awards and agreements).
2. Usurps the independent industrial umpire and requires it to follow the direction of the Treasurer.
3. Sets a dangerous precedent by radically moving away from long held workplace negotiation practice, forcing workers to simply accept what they're given.
4. Ends the right of workers to bargain in good-faith with their employer (the Government) on their wages or any other condition of employment.
5. Is not about a 12 month wage-freeze as it permanently alters the Tasmanian Industrial Relations Act 1984 to give the Treasurer power to override the discretion of the Industrial Commission by regulation.
6. Will give the Treasurer authority to issue regulations in regard to any industrial matter with respect to any individual employee, any group or class of employees or the entire public sector, including any crown appointment or statutory position.
7. Can allow the Government to institute wage cuts, with no recourse possible from workers.
Your petitioners, therefore, request that the House reject this Bill.
